Hudson started out this summer scared to get off the steps of the pool. Late last summer he fell in my parent’s pool. We had just walked outside and he didn’t have his puddle jumper (the world’s greatest invention) on yet. He was under for maybe 5 seconds – I (7 months pregnant at the time) jumped in and grabbed him quickly. Anyway, he remembers very vividly what happened and was totally freaked out at the beginning of the summer. This was disturbing not only because while I want him to have a healthy fear of the water, I don’t want him to be paralyzed with fear. And this is the (second) hottest summer on record and swimming is pretty much the only thing we can do outside right now.
Well, after returning from Omaha we went swimming one morning. I expected it to last about 30 minutes and consist of him staying on the steps. For some reason that day he totally overcame his fear! We swam for 2 hours and he swam across the pool (with his puddle jumper of course). We were so excited!
So, of course that weekend we headed to the pool!
This one is a natural water baby:
Our brave boy!
He even got brave enough to “jump” off the diving board!!!
So happy for our brave boy and really happy I wasn’t able to get him into swimming lessons until August. :)
