Sigh of relief…

When Hudson was a baby, my friend Christy gave me the wonderful idea of creating a Birthday tablecloth.  Every year your child puts their handprint on their birthday tablecloth.  What a sweet keepsake, right?? I loved the idea.

So, we had one made and Hudson did his first handprint…and his second.  We moved between his second and third birthdays.  When his third birthday rolled around I started looking for his tablecloth to do his handprint. And I could not find it anywhere. I tore my house up looking for it. My mom tore her house up looking for it.  It was nowhere to be found.  I cried and cried.  It isn’t like you can start a new tablecloth at age 3 (well, at least I can’t). And of course, I would feel guilty for starting one for Harper (yes, I can be irrational at times).

Fast-forward about six months.  One random night, Trent comes in our room carrying…Hud’s tablecloth.  It had gotten tucked in the bench in our mudroom. Literally, the ONLY place we hadn’t looked! I was thrilled. And yes, I cried again (yes, I am also dramatic and emotional).

So, of course I had sweet Harper’s tablecloth made. Thanks to all of the crazy circumstances going on around her birthday, plus the holidays – we just now got around to doing her handprint. Poor child. :(  But, it is done and neither tablecloth will be misplaced again!

As for Hud’s 3rd handprint. That was a bit of a conundrum….however, I realized one day I had traced his hand on the first day of school (for another little tradition I started). So, I laminated the handprint and we dipped it in paint. Trent scoffed at my idea at first, but then admitted it worked out pretty well!

Apparently…

it isn’t just like mother, like son:

But, it is also like mother, like daughter:

Monkey see, monkey do (especially when it comes to bubba):

But, then it was way more exciting to watch bubba and daddy play outside:

She stood glued to the window for-ev-er watching her beloved big brother.

“Cooking”

Hudson loves to help cook and do his own cooking in the kitchen! He was serving up “pancakes” and “cookies” one night.

Fifteen Months!!!

DSC_2501

Dear Harper,

You are fifteen months old!!!  And the sweetest thing I have ever met.  You are my little chatterbox.  Right now you are saying 15  words: mama, dada, mommy, nana, bubba, hi, hey, bye bye, bear, duck, dog, there, ball, nigh nigh, uh oh. You point emphatically at the things you want to eat (which is everything) and clap enthusiastically when we get it right.  You occasionally sign “more”, but very selectively.  The only time you get really fired up is when you are ready to eat (all the time) and we aren’t moving fast enough.  We had to switch you to almond milk this month, whole milk was bothering your tummy (much like soy).

You have a love for your bubba like no other.  His name is definitely the one you say the most.  Today at the store (while Hud was at school), you carried my phone around looking at his picture.  When the screen would go black, you yelled “uh oh!” and handed it to me to get his picture back asap. :)  He loves you so much, too. He is very protective of you and tells all of his friends that you are “a nice guy”. :)

You love playing with bubba in the playroom and you especially love your kitchen. Your favorite thing is for mommy to hold you though. And I do not mind a bit.

Your sleeping is the same. :) That is all I am going to say about that. You still don’t want to walk (and no, you still don’t want to roll either), but you will get there in your own time. I asked you to take a step for me the other day and you shook your head, no, quite emphatically. :)

You are our sweet Harper Joy (as Hud is now calling you on a regular basis) and we love you more than you will ever know.

Love,

Mommy

Hudson-isms

I love Hudson-isms. Especially ones related to his sister.

Here are  a few recent ones:

(Overheard at the CFA play area)

Hudson to random kid- “This is my baby sister! This is Harper!”

Random kid grunts

Hudson to random kid- “Do you have a baby sister?”

Random kid - “no”

Hudson to random kid - “Ohhhhhh. I am so sorry!”

Hudson to Harper on the way to school yesterday -  “It is okay, Harper. I will take care of you! I have to go to school and see my friends, but I will come right back. Don’t worry.”

His latest thing is he is a “Man!” When I do anything, he tells me – “I will do it because I am a MAN!”

A few nights ago, he was playing in the playroom after Harper went to bed. He heard her talking and immediately told me “Harper is wakey because she wants to come play with me.”

That same night he built a very long track for his trains. He told me that he built it for his daddy and that daddy was going to LOVE it! (and of course, he did).

We had an incident at the park yesterday that resulted in a trip to the ER (sigh).  He jammed a straw in his eye by accident and had a slight abrasion on his cornea.  After a couple of hours at the ER, they let us go.  Hudson became very upset when we were leaving. When I asked him what was wrong he said, “Mommy, I am very, very, very upset. They did not fix me. I am not a pirate!!!” Ha!!
