One year stats

I took Harper for her one year appointment today. I postponed her shots a week because she is a little under the weather with a cold.  The doctor said she is doing great!  She has more words than most one year olds (mama, dada, bubba, hi, hey, bye, nana and we all swear she has said “i love you” a few times).  The doctor isn’t concerned that she isn’t walking yet (I am not either).  He also isn’t concerned that she is (STILL) not rolling.  She pulls up, cruises, etc.  I asked about how much she sleeps (not complaining, just asking) and he said that all kids are on a bell curve and she falls at the “needs more sleep” end of the curve.  That is also why she seems to eat non-stop when she is awake – has to get her calories in when she can. :)

One memorable (humiliating) moment…Harper was shoving cheerios in (because she eats.non.stop.) and I started to dress her. She did not care for this and started blowing up.  Well, crying with cheerios in your mouth is not a good combo and of course my little choker started choking.  I swept most of them out, but she started gagging and I might have panicked a little.  I cried for help and the entire office came running. Awesome.  Thankfully, she was fine and I was just a bit red-faced.

Height: 30 inches (75%)

Weight : 21 lbs 12 oz (75%)

Head: 46 (I think?? 75%)

Her growth has slowed down, but she is still a very proportional girl. :)

First Haircut!!!

I wanted to wait until after Harper’s birthday to get her haircut. Part of me wanted to cut it before her party, but I waited it out.  One day I woke up and decided that was the day! I couldn’t take it anymore. :) So, we loaded up to get haircuts. When I told Hud that we were going to get Harper’s haircut, he said he wanted one as well.  He hates getting his haircut, so even though he didn’t really need one yet…I didn’t argue. :) He went first to show her how it is done.

One last shot of the long hair…the hairdresser cracked up because there were two very long strands that started at the roots!

Getting ready.  Hud did great the very first time he got his hair cut (18 months) and MELTED the second time. I was curious to see how she did.

Started out okay:

Not so sure about this:

Here is the thing about our sweet girl – she has a current shy streak. If she isn’t completely comfortable she wants to be in my arms and fast.  That kicked in right about now:

A little painful for my girl, but look how cute her bob is!

Happy in her nana’s arms!

Hudson’s class had a Thanksgiving feast last week! They also made a couple of thanksgiving crafts – a placemat and a feather.  The teachers asked each kid what they were thankful for and then wrote the answer on the placemat and the feather. I was laughing when I picked Hud up at some of the answers I saw…Batman stands out as a particularly funny answer. Then I saw my Huddy’s:

Of course, I cried. I know that is shocking.  I told the teacher that it made my day (possibly my year). She said they asked him several times (because most of the other kids had different answers for each of their projects) and his answer never wavered.  I love my sweet boy so much!!!

Harper’s 1st Birthday Party!!!

We held Harper’s birthday party a week after her actual birthday due to Baylor Homecoming (and due to the fact I never seem to have my kids parties on their birthdays).

I had a few things in my mind that I wanted to do, but due to some family things going on…it didn’t all happen. My dad ended up being in the hospital during that weekend and frankly, I am just glad I was able to pull off a party at all.

The birthday table:

The birthday girl!

I had my mom stop and buy juice boxes for the kids on her way over. Then I forgot to serve them. Awesome. Anyone need any juice? We have plenty.

The birthday cake! I wanted the same cake that Hudson had for his birthday – but in pink and brown of course!

Harper’s birthday tablecloth. We didn’t have time to do her handprint before the party. Thanks again to Christy for this fun idea!!!

My mom cut the letters out for the birthday banner:

My wonderful (and incredibly talented) friend Lizabeth made her adorable cookies for us…I am so grateful to her!!

Found this idea on pinterest (of course) and tweaked it a bit:

Birthday girl and her Nana. We missed my dad. :(

Some of the kiddos in the playroom before the majority headed outside to play:

Cake time!  I wasn’t sure how Harper was going to do with everyone staring at her since she can be on the shy side:

Family picture, minus Hudson who was too busy playing:

She was a fan if I fed it to her. She did not want to dig into it and she did NOT like it on her face.

Present time! It worked out well that a lot of people were outside, so that Harps didn’t get overwhelmed.  We had about 50 or 60 people there total.

After a while I was left to open on my own:

while she played with her new toys:

It was a wonderful celebration of our precious little girl. I am so thankful to our friends and family that were there. And I am particularly grateful of how understanding everyone was of the fact that I was kind of in a fog. The important thing is that we celebrated our little girl’s very important first birthday. :)
