We decided at the very last minute to take a VERY impromptu trip to Indianapolis. And thankfully, we have very sweet friends who didn’t mind us inviting ourselves to visit them!
We woke the kids up extremely early to go to the airport. Hud was slow to wake up until I told him it was time to get on the plane. He was ready to go then!
Harper…was still sleepy:
The kids did GREAT on the flight! Miss Harper never napped on the plane (like I hoped) but she woke up and was her happy self:
Waiting on the rental car:
Trent and I will have to get a new car sooner rather than later. I cannot believe I am about to write these words…but we most likely will get a mini-van. I swore I would never drive one – but really you can’t beat the practicality. I saw a mini-van in the rental lot and told Trent that I wished we had reserved it as a test drive. The guy working heard me and quickly said, “You know what – I am going to give you the mini-van! Just let them know I fixed you up”. SO nice!!!
We flew into Dayton, Ohio (the flights to Indiana were too tight) and then drove an hour and a half to Indy. We stopped for lunch…if there is a CFA, the Fletchers will find it! Even in Ohio:
Harper crashed after lunch (and yes, she is wearing a different outfit thanks to an unfortunate diaper blowout):
Hud didn’t nap, but he did rock his “baby”, Judge, to sleep:
After stopping by the house, we all headed to the firehouse. Shawn had to work the first night that we were there. We were able to get a tour of his firehouse, which was so fun!
Shawn was on ladder duty that night (I hope I said that right). He raised the ladder for us on the truck:
He climbs to the top of this thing!!! Yikes.
This is what waking-up-two-hours-early-no-nap-flying-two-hours-driving-two-hours-Hud looks like:
In other words – fun times.
Shawn and Hud having a moment. Shawn claims he was promising candy if the kids would at least pretend to listen while he educated them…they didn’t get any candy.
Fireman Hud!
We get this awesome tour of a real firehouse and Hud is most interested in the fish:
As much as I love to give Shawn grief about everything – it really is an honor to have a friend who has chosen such a selfless career to help others.
We headed to a delicious dinner!
We thought it would be super fun for the boys to have a sleepover:
They thought so too! For about two hours. :) Hud woke up and was really wanting his daddy. So, a soundly sleeping Will was moved to his mommy’s bed and Trent slept with Hudson. We will try again in a few years. :)

What a wonderful "Fireman experience!" Not very often does one know a personal fireman! Hudson will forever remember these moments, I'm sure.
