Arizona Day 1

We took a trip to Arizona a few weeks ago to visit Jim and Debby, aka Pepaw and Grandma D.  Originally, Jim’s name was Grandpa but Hudson likes to re-name people and has named him Pepaw.  So, there you have it.

I will tell you – traveling with 2 kids under 3 is not for the weak. :) We ran into a few things that surprised us – more on that later.

We had originally planned to fly using my dad’s benefits. However, that required us to fly stand-by and that didn’t seem to be a wise decision with 2 kids.  So, we booked tickets using our miles at the last minute. I am very glad we did because the flight before ours got cancelled and the stand-by list blew up.  Anyway, our flight was pretty early so we had to be at the airport at 7 a.m.  The check-in was super crowded:

The kids were incredibly patient.  We finally got checked in and then we made it through security.  I was a little stressed about security, but it went fine.  We finally made it on the plane. Harper slept a good portion of the trip.  Here is a picture from the brief time she was awake:

Hudson did FANTASTIC!  We had to wake the kids up at 5:45 to get to the airport, so I was wondering if he would do okay since he was short on sleep. No reason to worry because he did great. :)  I bought a new dvd for the trip there (and back) and packed some fun snacks and a few new (dollar aisle) toys. He did great!

we made it!  Here is Harps waiting at the PHX airport for our bags.  When we went out to visit them a couple of years ago, I found a girl who runs a business renting baby equipment. We deliberated taking our car seats with us, but decided (again at the last minute) to track her down and rent from her again.  Thank goodness we did.  It was quite a feat getting 5 carry-ons, 3 suitcases, 2 kids and 1 stroller on to the shuttle bus to the rental car center.  I can’t imagine adding the 2 car seats to that load.

We finally got loaded up and headed out.  We made a stop at a Chick Fil A in Phoenix for lunch and to let Hudson run off some steam.  We were hoping he would nap during the two hour drive to Prescott.  He did…for 30 minutes.

We made it to Prescott and Hudson’s new best friend greeted us:

Poor Bear.  Hudson did not let him out of his sight for the next few days.

Harper chilled out in the rocker/bouncy seat we rented for her:

More to come…
